Sundance

“Chicago’s Tightest Female DJ”

Sundance (real name: Ericka Campbell) has been working in Chicago radio since she joined WGCI-FM in December 1999. There, she worked overnight shifts, weekends, and mix shows. In October 2007, she shifted over to sister-station WVAZ-FM/V103, working overnights. At the end of April 2009, corporate cutbacks had her released from WVAZ-FM (along with many others at the station and at other Clear Channel-owned radio stations in Chicago). She eventually found her way to WSRB-FM, where she had been doing a Friday night mix show.

Before working on the radio, Sundance had a passion for music. She learned how to play the drums and saxophone at a young age and could also sing. When only 17 years old, she was a featured singer on was a 1989 single produced by Fast Eddie called “Git On Up.” That single was on the Billboard Dance charts for 19 weeks and went gold. She then went on a world tour promoting the hit.

Since she started working on the radio, Sundance has been a top Chicago club DJ. The Source magazine named her “one of the best female DJs in the Mid-West” in 2004. The Truth Awards three times honored her as “Chicago’s Tightest Female DJ” (2004, 2005, 2006). In 2007, Sundance won the national Sprite “Best Female DJ Award.”

Along with music, radio, and DJing, one of her other passions was the field of cosmetology, something she has been doing since her early 20s. She currently is the owner of Noricka’s Kutting Room Hair Salon in Calumet City.

Sundance is native of Chicago’s west side, who now lives on the south side.

Starting on October 6, you can catch her on the 9:00am-2:00pm shift on Soul 106.3.
